Buenos Aires, December 17 (NA) – Former President Cristina Kirchner launched harsh criticisms against the government's recent announcement to index exchange rate bands to the rate of inflation and stated that “the economy is in free fall.” The former head of state, who is under house arrest, assured that the Argentine economy is not recovering due to a lack of consumption. Through an extensive message, Kirchner reviewed what she called “announcements of a different monetary policy each year” by the Javier Milei administration, from the dollarization promised in 2023 to the current band scheme. For the former president, the Central Bank's decision to enable the “indexed dollar” starting in 2026 is proof of the non-fulfillment of previous promises, learned the Argentine News Agency. She directly criticized the President of the Central Bank, Santiago Bausili, and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, by stating: “The truth is that the economy is in free fall because consumption is not rebounding.” Of course, without forgetting the spectacle of the economy officials, the Central Bank, and Milei himself, shouting on a streaming channel... “Float! The dollars are not coming out our ears but are leaving the country.” The former president, in turn, stated that there was an increase in imports and outbound tourism; payment of debt interest and purchase of global digital services; and negative Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Cristina Kirchner emphasized: “One thing is to talk on TV and another is to sit in the Rivadavia chair and govern a country with the people inside.” The former head of state emphasized that the president's phrases, such as “the economy is going to rise like a diver's fart,” or the celebrations in streaming, do not match the situation of citizens, in a context where internal consumption is not showing signs of recovery. “This entire journey of announcements of a different monetary policy each year, without any of them being fulfilled, was accompanied by Milei and Caputo with phrases such as: ‘The economy is going to rise like a diver’s fart,’ or ‘Grab the pesos and buy it, don't miss it, champion,’ or one of the latest… ‘The dollars are going to come out our ears.’ Float!,” she added.
